Furniture Design Developer

We are looking for an experienced Furniture Design Developer to join our team.

PINCH is one of the UK’s most prestigious, creative and successful furniture brands, created by Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon. Since 2004 we have been designing and distributing award winning, contemporary furniture and lighting to a global audience. Whilst we run a small studio our reach is wide, not only geographically but also in terms of our business activities, which span product design, design service, marketing, manufacture, procurement and merchandising.

We are looking for an extremely capable individual to join our team as a product developer as we continue to build our quality. Based at our design studio in Clapham North, this role will report to the Design Manager. The candidate will be responsible for taking new concepts through to full production and continually improving our current offering. The role will also work collaboratively with the sales team and production manager to support customer enquiries from a design and manufacturing perspective.

Role KPIs

  • To work collaboratively on all elements of the design process, production and QC at Pinch

  • Bring sensitive and creative ideas and solutions to refine current designs or in developing new pieces

  • Ensure new products are realised to our high-quality aspirations, on time

  • Ensure new pieces meet required standards and certification

  • Liase with our workshops to motivate and challenge them to deliver exceptional quality and refined designs

  • Support the sales team with customer enquiries from a design and manufacturing perspective

  • Ensure all custom/bespoke commissions are designed well, efficiently procured and quality controlled

  • Maintaining accurate and accessible design records for others to access

  • Exploring new materiality and finishes for new products

  • Upward managing to managers to deliver knowledge share, maintaining strong lines of communication

  • Being a force for ambitious, collaborative positivity in the work place

  • Representing PINCH values to external customers and suppliers

New product development

NPD is a continual drive at PINCH

  • Developing our concept designs through to production ready pieces

  • Assessing production needs and production strategy

  • Responsible for tracking supplier development of our designs and ensuring they are developed to our brief

  • Liasing with the manufacturer to answer any questions relating to the design and its production progression

  • Managing the design and prototyping timeline to bring product to market on schedule

  • Material research

  • Ethical and sustainable production research

  • Component research

  • Model making

  • Full scale model prototyping

  • Finish sampling

  • CAD drawings

  • Prototype management and review

  • Packaging requirements

  • Blueprint/birthing docs preparation

  • Spec sheet preparation

  • Assembly instructions preparation

External manufacture


  • Assisting the production manager to deliver world class products

  • Defining production touch points for new products

  • Design and optimization of ancillary goods eg packaging/and components

Quality Control

  • Support the Production Manager with quality control reviews

  • QC builds strong relationships with our suppliers as well as to ensure products are made to our standards

  • Ensure QC procedure is well managed and well recorded

  • Strive for the continual improvement of our quality

Custom products

Custom commissions (custom means versions of portfolio designs)

  • Drawing up custom versions of our designs, building an ordered and accessible library of design variations

  • Liaising with the sales team on client requests, sharing technical knowledge

  • Create/commission finish samples where necessary to support a sales objective

  • Liaising with our workshops to problem solve custom configurations

  • Issue drawings for workshops to quote against

  • Creation of final production drawings

  • QC of final goods

Bespoke products

As above but working on stand alone, new design customer projects

Other admin and misc

  • Shop display and shop improvement projects and handling

  • Assist on the design and production of stands for exhibitions or photoshoots

  • Ad hoc stand alone design projects eg – reuse/ improved credentials across packaging

Occasional site/ client visit to trouble shoot production issues may be required.

This is a full time role, Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm based at our Clapham North Studio

3 years + experience as a minimum working in cabinetry, lighting and/or upholstery design and development
