Materials and finishes
Black American walnut
Black American walnut is a slow growing deciduous tree native to north America and Canada. It is a hardwood prized for its dark brown, purplish hue with a sometimes swirling grain, it can display many unique characteristics, such as knots and variations in depth of tone. Walnut will get lighter with age becoming more honeyed over time. We use a protective clear oil finish which enables the timber to age gracefully without heavy discolouration and withstand daily spillage.
Finish- clear oil. We use a clear satin hard-wax oil that enriches the colour of the timber.
European oak
European oak is a slow growing hardwood native tree to Europe. It has a golden to light brown colouring with a variety of grain patterns. Oak is very hard, durable wood and gets darker and richer with age. We use a protective white oil finish to allow the timber to age gracefully without heavy discolouration and withstand daily spillage.
European oak can display a variety of characteristics from straight grain to large swirling crown cut grain Medullary rays, small 'Cats paw' knots all of which are an intrinsic and natural part of the grain pattern.
Finish - white oil. We use a slightly white pigmented satin hard-wax oil that slows the darkening of the timber.
Vegetable tanned leather
A versatile and durable material, vegetable-tanned leather is treated with tannins from natural plant sources to give a luxurious depth of colour that will grow with richness as it ages. Finished with a semi-aniline polishable coating, it has a smooth matte texture that celebrates the natural grain and will develop a beautiful patina over time. We recommend you avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.
Care guide
House leather
Our Midnight black house leather has a special surface treatment which guards against wear and tear, making it water repellent and stain resistant as well ensuring all hides are cohesive in look and feel. As a natural material it will age slightly according to its environment, creating a beautiful patina over time. We recommend you avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.
Day to day cleaning:
• If cleaning is essential for small marks, carefully dab with a clean, lint-free cloth, and vacuum gently using the small brush attachment. For more pronounced marks, please refer to a professional leather cleaner.
Do not:
• Use any abrasive or chemical cleaning products or bleach, as this will damage the leather.
Customer's own leather
We recommend you avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or next to strong heat sources as this can cause leather to discolour or dry out prematurely. For customer own leather cleaning and care instructions please refer to the individual leather provider or a professional leather cleaner.
