House leather
Our house leather has a special surface treatment which guards against wear and tear, making it water repellent and stain resistant as well ensuring all hides are cohesive in look and feel. As a natural material it will age slightly according to its environment, creating a beautiful patina over time. We recommend you avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.

Customer's own leather
We offer our Brody chairs upholstered in customer's own leather. If you do not have a specific leather in mind our sales team can recommend a suitable option for your new piece.

Leg timber
Brody legs come in a choice of black American walnut with a clear oil finish or European oak with a white oil finish.

Why does my fabric require knit-backing – what is it?
The purpose of knit-backing upholstery fabric is to add body, resiliency, and durability whilst also eliminating seam slippage. We would encourage doing this if the fabric you have selected is relatively lightweight, to reinforce it for upholstery use and maintain the durability over the fabric’s lifespan.
If you are providing the fabric to us you will need to ask the fabric supplier to do this for you before sending it to us.
Why does my fabric require fire retardancy treatment – what is it?
All the upholstery we make has to meet the relevant level of fire retardancy according to where it is going. If the fabric you have selected does not meet the relevant Match and Cigarette test, we would need the fabric to be FR treated, this can usually be done by the fabric house you are buying from.
We will advise if this is necessary when we do a stitch test. If you are providing the fabric to us you will need to arrange for this to be done before supplying to us.
What is the difference between aniline and treated leather?
Aniline is the most natural-looking leather, with little or no protection so the full beauty of the hide shines through. However, unprotected leathers like this can be marked with oils and also fade in the sun. We like this patina on pieces as they grow more interesting with use, but if this is not acceptable please look at semi-aniline or protected leathers. Semi-aniline is a treated leather that has a light coating, making it more protected than pure aniline. We would therefore suggest this is used on more high-wear products such as dining chairs.
Fully protected leather has a durable coating applied so it is protected.
What is a pattern repeat?
This is simply the length of the repeat on a fabric. We will need to know this to make sure we can align patterns as much as possible. Larger patterns mean we usually need more than the standard amount of fabric. We will calculate this for you and let you know the required meterage.
Why is there a pattern surcharge?
It takes more time to cut patterned fabrics, as we need to make sure we align the pattern correctly across the piece.
We recommend you avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or next to strong heat sources as this can cause fabric and leather to discolour.

Day to day cleaning:
• We recommend regular cleaning in order to keep fabric looking its best and to prolong its life. Vacuum gently with a small brush attachment or use an upholstery brush. For more pronounced stains please refer to a specialist cleaner.
House leather - tan
Our house tan leather is a pure aniline leather. As such, it will reveal natural markings such as scarring, growth marks and variation in tone and colour. These markings are a part of the beauty of the leather which has been selected for its natural materiality, high quality and comfort. As a natural material it will age according to its environment, creating a beautiful patina over time.
Day to day cleaning:
• As an untreated material, the leather is naturally absorbent. If cleaning is essential for small marks, carefully dab with a clean, lint-free cloth, and vacuum gently using the small brush attachment. For more pronounced marks, please refer to a professional leather cleaner.
Do not:
• Use any abrasive or chemical cleaning products or bleach, as this will damage the leather.
