White gold leaf
European oak
European oak is a slow growing hardwood native tree to Europe. It has a golden to light brown colouring with a variety of grain patterns. Oak is very hard, durable wood and gets darker and richer with age. We use a protective white oil finish to allow the timber to age gracefully without heavy discolouration and withstand daily spillage.
European oak can display a variety of characteristics from straight grain to large swirling crown cut grain Medullary rays, small 'Cats paw' knots all of which are an intrinsic and natural part of the grain pattern.
Pure white gold leaf
A gilded, lacquered finish that is resistant to tarnishing, but requires delicate handling to avoid scratches and abrasion.
Day to day cleaning:
- Position the cabinet in a safe area, where it isn’t likely to be knocked or scratched.
- Use white gloves when moving or handling the cabinet to avoid marking or leaving fingerprints on its surface.
- Gently remove surface dust with a Gilder’s mop, a very soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth.
Do not:
- Place the cabinet in direct sunlight or close to any heat sources, as this can cause the gold leaf to appear duller.
- Never use water, household cleaner, or polish on the cabinet’s gilded surface, as this can dissolve the adhesive, causing the leaf to flake.
- Never scrub or use a hard brush on the cabinet’s surface, as this can cause abrasions and loss of detail.
-
Attempt to clean minor scratches, either use a small amount of specialist gold-leaf rubbing cream or consult a professional restorer.
