The collaboration
We had long been looking for rugs and carpets that would partner with our furniture and build on the sense of warmth, tactility and artistry. We found inspiration in abstract Mondrian shapes and the tones of a setting sun. We collaborated with interiors consultant and art director Sussy Cazalet, whose design language chimes with our own. She is a master at layering engaging shapes, but there is also a simplicity to her work, and like us, materiality is a central tenet of the work she creates.
The design process
Once shape and colour direction was agreed Sussy worked with watercolours, exploring treatments to bring the layout to life, and to deliver the final refinement to line thickness and balance of colour.
The making
Hand woven in Uttar Pradesh in the north of India on traditional looms using hand-dyed silk and wools, incorporating elements of gabbeh and embroidery, the collection comprises four designs of flat-weave kilims, combining silk and wool.
